What is Canesten Thrush External Cream?

This cream is from Canesten and is designed to treat thrush. The cream should only be used for external thrush and another treatment is required for internal thrush. If you need treatment for internal thrush, speak to a doctor or pharmacist.

What is thrush?

Thrush is caused by a yeast infection and is quite common. The fungus responsible is called the candida, which grows in warm, moist environments. Thrush is a result of a bacteria change in the affected. This is normally caused by: Skin irritation Hormone changes, such as pregnancy or menopause Taking antibiotics A weakened immune system as a result of HIV or chemotherapy Thrush is harmless but will cause discomfort and can return.

Can men get thrush?

Even though thrush is usually thought of a condition that only women are affected, men can get it. However, men can only get it from a woman who is affected when having sex. Despite this, thrush is not classified as an STI (Sexually Transmitted Infection).

    The cream should be applied to the affected area around the vagina 2 to 3 times daily. The cream should be applied thinly and spread evenly and should not be used for longer than 7 days. To treat male patients, the cream should be applied to the tip of the penis 2 to 3 times daily. It should not be used for longer than 14 days in men.
