What Is Duac Gel?
Duac is a treatment for mild to moderate acne. It is available in gel form and contains two active ingredients - clindamycin, an antibiotic; and benzoyl peroxide, an antibacterial and keratolytic (peeling) agent, these 2 ingredients work together to kill the ACNE bacteria and minimise blackheads and whiteheads.
How Do I Use Duac Gel?
Gently wash the affected area with a mild cleanser and make sure the skin is completely dry afterward. Apply a small amount of gel to the entire affected area/s each evening and rub in. Ensure to wash your hands after each application. Allow the gel to dry on the skin, do not wash it off.
How Long Will It Take To Work?
After 2-5 weeks you should notice an improvement in your skin with daily use, with the maximum benefit visible in around 8-12 weeks. Treatment should only be continued up to a maximum of 12 weeks.

How Is Duac Applied?
The gel is usually applied to the affected area in the evening, after washing your face. Remember when washing your face, you should use warm water, and ideally an oil-free acne wash. Patting your skin dry is also preferable, as this is less irritating to your skin. Following washing, apply Duac thinly over all affected areas with your fingertips.
When should I use Duac?
If your acne has not responded to antibiotics or peeling agents alone, then Duac combines both, to provide a second line of treatment to more resistant acne.
What does Duac do?
Duac works in two ways to help reduce acne symptoms. It kills bacteria on the surface of the skin, and also helps prevent clogged pores which can become infected.
What are the side effects of Duac?
The most common side effect of Duac is dry, red or sore skin. This is because Benzoyl Peroxide has a drying effect on the skin. If inflammation and dryness are severe, you should reduce the application frequency to once every two days. If you are still suffering from severe dry/red skin, you should stop using this treatment. You may also notice you have increased sensitivity to light. Wearing protective clothing/sunscreen is recommended if you notice your skin is more sensitive to sunlight.
Can I use Duac gel more than once daily?
No there has not been any convulsive evidence to suggest that using Duac Gel twice daily will clear acne more effectively. Overuse is likely to result in skin dryness and irritation and may lead to antibiotic resistance.
Can I apply more Duac Gel?
No there is no evidence to suggest that applying more Duac gel (i.e. not thinly) will improve acne treatment and can lead to resistance.
How long does Duac take to work?
Most people will see an effect within 2 to 6 weeks of using Duac gel consistently.
Side Effects
Side effects of Duac
Duac side effects usually occur on the skin. The most common side effects experienced when using the gel are skin dryness, redness/irritation/itching. These side effects are as a result of the benzoyl peroxide which has a drying effect on the skin. If these side effects are problematic, you may find applying the gel once every two nights may still be effective, yet lessen the irritation experienced. If the redness or inflammation is sever, however, you should discontinue treatment and see your GP. Less commonly, Duac can cause stomach upsets and in rare cases, you may experience bad diarrhoea. Stop using this treatment immediately and speak to your GP if you develop severe diarrhoea after using Duac. As Duac contains an antibiotic, it should not be used with other antibiotic treatments, as this will increase the likelihood of this side effect.
