Voltarol 12 Hour Emulgel P is used to treat the following: • muscle and joint injuries (e.g. sprains, strains, bruises, backache, sports injuries), by relieving pain and aiding recovery back to normal function; • tendonitis (e.g. tennis elbow), swelling around elbow or knee
How do I use Voltarol 12 hour gel?
Voltarol 12 hour gel is applied to the affected area and is gently rubbed into the skin. Only the smallest amount of Voltarol gel is required to provide pain relief. As it is a 12-hour preparation, this gel can be applied twice a day.
Can I use Voltarol 12 hour gel if you are pregnant/breastfeeding?
No. You should only use this medication under the advice of your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. If you are in the last 3 months of pregnancy, you should NOT use voltarol 12-hour gel as it may harm your unborn child or cause problems during delivery. Small traces of the active ingredient diclofenac in voltarol gel can be passed to your child through breast milk. If breastfeeding, voltarol should not be applied to the chest area for a prolonged duration.
Can I use Voltarol 12 hour gel if I am taking other pain relief medication?
Voltarol 12 hour gel should not be used if you are taking any other medication which contains diclofenac or any other NSAIDs (ibuprofen, aspirin, naproxen). If you are unsure about any medication that you are taking is an NSAID then speak to our pharmacist.
Side Effects
Does this product have any side effects?
Like all medicines, Voltarol 12 Hour Gel can have side effects, although not everyone will experience them. These side effects include:
- Skin rash, itching, reddening or smarting of the skin
- Signs of allergic reaction, e.g. skin rash with blisters, hives, wheezing, shortness of breath, feeling tightness in the chest (asthma), swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat
- The skin may be more sensitive to the sun, possible signs include sunburn with itching, swelling, or blistering
